ABOUT US

The Ten Toe Express is powered by you and Transit Alliance. Transit Alliance gathers a diverse group of businesses, governments, civic and environmental organizations to preserve the economic vitality, quality of life and environment of the Denver Metropolitan region by promoting public transit as part of a balanced, multi-modal transportation network. Transit Alliance is a 501(c)3 tax-exempt, non-profit organization.

To sustain the great places of Colorado we need a balanced multi-modal transportation system that provides for the growing needs of our rapidly changing society. Transit Alliance builds consensus with a diverse coalition. Transit Alliance provides a regional forum for diverse groups and interests to develop agreement on transportation strategies and solutions.

The history of the Transit Alliance spans 12 years of educating Metro Denver citizens about the need and benefits of a balanced transportation system. Among our greatest accomplishments is the passage of the FasTracks initiative, Metro Denver’s 12 year infrastructure plan that will witness light rail, commuter rail, bus-rapid transit and improved suburb-to-suburb bus connections spreading across our region like a spider web. Throughout our brief history we have challenged leaders, stakeholders and citizens to understand lessons learned from other cities across the country and around the globe. Our mission has always been one of providing education that goes beyond the ballot box, helping citizens understand the community and health benefits inherent in a multi-modal metro-wide transit system.

Beginning in 2007,the Transit Alliance launched the Citizens’ Academy. The Academy is an emerging leader’s education program to train community leaders, agencies, governments and/or organizations on how to promote and educate about the quality of life in our communities on issues related to sustainability, transportation and community development with particular emphasis on Transit Oriented Development (TOD).

This innovative program assists policy makers, business leaders and the general public in making informed decisions about transit and TOD. In addition, the Citizens’ Academy provides an opportunity to mobilize the alumni of the Citizens’ Academy so that they remain engaged in key transportation and land use issues and continue to galvanize our region around FasTracks, smart growth and TOD.

Unique to this program is that each participant is required to design and implement an individual action plan. Because participants are from all parts of the Denver Metro region, their action plans have a great impact on the overall success of education and galvanizing our communities around FasTracks, smart growth and TOD.

By harnessing the mobility that only transportation options provide, we can serve all of our citizens, enhance our economic growth and foster healthy lifestyles. Participate with other leaders to generate strategies, new ideas and policies that promote, protect and enhance the creation of a balanced multi-modal transportation system.
